Tiger Battalion » Interactive » Website History

Click on one of the following images to view that version. Once you click the link, a new window will open. All the links on those web sites are disabled. Once you are done, just Close the window.

None of the material on any of these layouts are to be taken without permission from the webmaster.

Version 0 - Version 0 is given it's number because it was only up for a few days before version 1 came up. Former Cadet Erving Velez had made this version. It features a table menu and basic html. However because it was so plain, Velez decided to change most of it and add a lot more images.

Version 1 - Version 1 was basically the start of the web site because things were still under construction. However, things were actually done. This version used an image map for the menu. What that does is basically have one full image with different links. What was lacking however was content.

Version 2 - Version 2 was the last version made by Former Cadet Velez. It made so many improvements and expansions. DHTML was used to make this web site more enjoyable. DHTML gave it more zass. As you can see, the battalion was able to get more involved. Cadets were able to write articles that were posted in the web site. This is a unique feature that most JROTC web sites do not have. There was interactive content allowing people to stay a while longer. This version used a special script made for menus. There was music on almost every web page.

Version 3 - Version 3 was the first version that Cadet Ng made. This version was made over and existed only in the summer of 2002. Version 3 is very similar to version 2, but with more content. Because of complains to those who saw it early, version 4 was made.

Version 4 - Version 4 was a free layout that was taken from an unknown source. The menu was probably the best thing about this one. The menu used a hover effect. Because this layout was free, the webmaster decided to make version 5.

Version 5 - Version 5 was made with the help of Former Cadet Damaris Velez. The background from this layout was taken from one of Yahoo!'s themes. This version used an i-frame. This was the first version where knowledge really expanded. However, it just wasn't good enough. The menu only showed branches to other links. That is why version 6 was made. This is also when the web site was getting more noticed by the battalion. Talk about a waste of versions huh? The main colors of this version are blue, yellow and white.

Version 6 - Version 6 was made also using an i-frame. The problem with the links were finally solved. The menu showed all the links that needed to be shown. However, because frames are so hard to work with, getting them to be seen right in any resolution is hard. That is why version 6 is the last version using frames... in a way. This was the version that made this web site the Official Fort Hamilton High School Army JROTC Tiger Battalion Website! The main colors of this version are dark blue and white.

Version 7 - There should actually be a version 7 and a version 7.5. Version 7 gave a black background with color coded menus. The banner was also just a jpeg. Because inspection was coming, updates to the website were done to make it look better. The background sports a blueish star background. The menu actually used images instead of color codes. The banner was changed to a flash banner. The inspector were very pleased to see the web site the way it was. The menu was made using an "object" code. It is sort of like a frame. What it does it load whatever html is on another web page and stick it where you tell it to. The problem with this is that there is a set height for this. If there were to be more additions to the menu, sooner or later, the menu wouldn't show the links. That however, never happened. The main colors of this version are blue, black and white.

Version 8 - Version 8 was a mix between version 7 and version 6. The menu is basically version 6 with the modification of NO FRAMES. It used the short script that would allow for an iframe. There was also a special effect on the menu where the letters changed colors. At the top of each page, in red, you can see the "Directory". This version was the first time the web site had used a bottom image. It gave the web site a little more touch. However, the menu was still plain and the layout was another rectangular version. The menu here is the same "object" code used in version 7. Because of a challenge from another battalion, version 9 was made. The main colors for this version are white and blue.

Version 9 - Version 9 was the version that took literally hours to make. That is because after the images were made, the webmaster lost all but 2 picture files. The menu images took about 3-5 hours to make. The bottom image took about 2 hours to make. The banner at the top is actually the second banner. The first banner used pictures that were unsatisfactory. The counter is at the bottom of every page. However, it is a unique visit counter. That means it doesn't count each page load. The counter was actually a fill in. The first bottom image that was erased had the Army flag on it. The menu no longer uses the "object" code mentioned in version 7. An ASP code was used. It basically does the same thing, but actually loads the html rather then the web page. The main colors for this version are orange, black (tiger colors), blue and white (FHHS colors).
